Y'know, Sometimes I wonder...if he was once a Sky Knight before he became the Dark Ace.
I have a theory that he was one of the original Storm Hawks and he betrayed the squadron, turning turncoat and joining with Cyclonis. That would help explain why he is know for singlehandedly bringing down the original Storm Hawks.

As for Master Cyclonis, I'll probably bet one of two things. Either she is the Daughter of the previous ruler...or she is possessed by the original ruler. Heck, she's got the creepy voice change thing going on. ^_^
Maybe Cyclonis offered Dark Ace the chance to be the greatest most powerful pilot "Ace" or something in all of Atmos if he joined her. He does pride his flying and fighting abilities overall, and she does have an eye for skill.

As for theories I have to agree with Saturn on the Dark Ace D: .. I think he might have been known as "Ace" once.
The daughter theory makes sense d: Or she could be just a little orphan girl and the Original Cyclonis found her... eh.. that made more sense in my head... I donno, but Kinda like the little girl from Drakengard?

Cool picture. I also wonder why Dark Ace is serving Cyclonis. I hope the show offers some kind of explanation, otherwise it's sort of, "well... cuz he's one of the BAD GUIZ!" Great coloring, it sets the mood well.

There are a lot of theories.
Dark Ace is her Father.
Dark Ace is Brother, Uncle, etc.
She forced him into it.
SHE IS RICH! (He wants $ and she hired him)
Just two unlikely friends?
He thinks shes going to take over the world, and then joins her. (Like Carver)
He's just plain BAD!
She inherited Cyclonia (along with its army and him)
He just got up one day and said "I think I'll join Cyclonia"

And it just goes on and on, but it will be easier to shorten these theories down to one as the show goes on.
Remember, it is a fairly new show and we haven't seen much in the way of history of the characters (other than a little of Junko).

That seems very likely! Dark Aces' skills are similar to those of a sky night, just...he's one evil pup! The poor Storm Hawks. ='(

It's just so bizarre the amount of loyalty he shows! In the ending of the first "movie", when the storm machine is destroyed, he covers Cyclonis to protect her from falling metal. Maybe the Rex guardians weren't exactly wrong when they said even cyclonians have honor. XD (Either that, or she owed him money.)

One does wonder on the Dark Ace's real origins. Because, frankly, his real name is definitly not "The Dark Ace." All the good musings on him have already apeared in earlier comments, though. Poo.

Whatever the situation is, the Dark Ace is one sexy evil man.

Personally, I rather like your theory on the thing. The picture is wonderful, by the way, the lighting is perfect, and I love the way you obscured their faces. ^^

Actually, I lied. I do have one theory on Ace that I don't think has been mentioned yet. One does detect a small amount of romantic tension between the two (or maybe thata's just my mad fangirl side), but maybe the Dark Ace was her bodyguard or some sort of childhood companion (he doesn't seem too many years older than her) and so when Cyclonis inherited the empire, he went along with her. They do seem to be rather close.

How old is Cyclonis and Dark Ace? She looks like she's in her late teens on the show, and so does Dark Ace...but if he defeated the original Storm Hawks...does that make him really, REALLY old? Has he been granted eternal youth or something? Cool pic by the way, the beginning of a relationship between master and servant...though shouldn't she be called Mistress Cyclonis instead of master since she's a girl and all?

Me, I estimate that Cyclonis is probably the same age as the Storm Hawks, which is about 14.
Dark Ace I'm guessing is probably around 18 to 20. I'll put my money on at least 20.

I thought Cyclonis was the older of the two, as for dark ace I think that we was a sky knight, but something happened and he fell form grace and that how he met Cyclonis. But any way nice pic.
